Break Into Backcountry is a splitboard course designed for those who maybe already have a little splitboarding experience probably achieved at resort level but who are now ready to go move up to higher altitudes. If you want to spend overnight time in the high mountains & ride bigger lines whilst learning backcountry craft in a safe environment then this splitboard backcountry course is for you.

This splitboard backcountry introduction combines all the elements required to help you step up to the next level in big mountain snowboarding.

Course Details 2019

13th - 19th April 2019 - €2085 per person - Max. 4 people per group

DAY 1 - ARRIVAL
Arrive in Chatel from Geneva airport. First night hotel accommodation

DAY 2 - TRAVEL / SPLITBOARD & HUT
Leave Châtel and drive into Italy to the "Barrage des Places du Moulin" and an easy skin up to  the Prarayer refuge at 2005m

DAY 3 - SPLITBOARD TOUR & HUT
Starting from refuge Prarayer we will skin to the Col de Bella Tsa at 2997m (D+ 1050m) before heading back down to the Prarayer hut

Day 4 - SPLITBOARD TOUR & HUT
From the refuge Prarayer we head to refuge Nacamuli. We will leave some none essential items in the hut before a summit of Becca Vannetta at 3661m. From there it is a descent back to the refuge (D+ 1300m).

Day 5 - SPLITBOARD TOUR
Depart from refuge Nacamuli. A technical day with some traverses taking in Col Collon, Col Brûlé and Tête de Valpelline and then down to refuge Aosta (D+ 1100m). 

DAY 6 - SPLITBOARD TOUR & RETURN TO CHATEL
From the refuge Aosta its up to Epaule de la Dent d'Hérens and down to the valley (D+ 1200m). A long day finishing with a skin along the lake to come back at the car park. From there we head back to hotel accommodation in Chatel.

DAY 7 - FRIDAY 19th DEPARTURE

  • 5 days UIAGM guiding with Paulo Verdier
  • 2 nights hotel accommodation in Chatel
  • 4 nights refuge accommodation 
  • Transport to splitboard destination country
  • Return single seat return transfer to Geneva airport
  • Lift passes if required

  • Transceiver, shovel and probe (we can arrange rental of these items if required)

Fitness Level 3

Ability Level 4

You will learn how to effectively use ropes for crevasse rescue and glacier travel. Boot crampons for glacier & broken ground ascents and self arrest techniques using an ice axe.  Also included are ongoing modules on determining avalanche risk, freeride and skinning technique and also how to move safely in the mountains.

It’s not all work and learning though as we are totally committed to taking you to snowboard in some incredible places and on unforgettable terrain. You will spend overnight time in high mountain refuge huts and the days searching for the best snow that the mountain has to offer in stunning and wild surroundings.

As ever TRS Splitboarding will ascertain where the best conditions for that week are thereby ensuring that you have an unforgettable experience with us. We might travel to Italy, Austria, Switzerland or (should conditions be optimum) just stay in France to guarantee you the best weather and snow for your trip.

The break into backcountry course runs from Saturday to Friday. You will be fully UIAGM guided over 5 days. Expect to spend 3 nights at altitude in high mountain huts and 3 nights in a hotel (or equivalent ) whilst in resort.

A complimentary return airport transfer and use of splitboarding equipment are included in the price too.

If you are a high intermediate snowboarder (with a good level of fitness) and are ready to get out there for a bigger adventure then this is for you.
